Overview
Spruce was entrusted with building Senator John Hickenlooper’s digital brand and official Senate website from the ground up. The engagement encompassed creation of a custom logo, graphics, patterns, icons, fonts, colors, and imagery representing Colorado — all integrated into a fully functional, accessible website designed for constituent engagement and state-level representation.
As a new senator, Hickenlooper required simultaneous development of both visual brand identity and constituent-focused digital infrastructure. The UX team needed to design for accessibility across a diverse audience with varying backgrounds, education levels, and first languages — all while navigating strict Senate security protocols.

Spruce created custom logo, graphics, patterns, icons, fonts, and colors that represent Colorado’s character and culture.
The visual identity authentically reflects the state’s heritage and landscape while establishing a distinctive, recognizable brand for the new Senator.
2. Accessibility for Diverse Audiences
Imagery, iconography, translation capabilities, and simple language throughout ensure that all Coloradans — regardless of background, education level, or first language — can access and understand the Senator’s office information and services. Full ADA/WCAG AA compliance guarantees accessibility for constituents with disabilities.
3. Constituent-Centered Forms & Support
Stepped, animated forms designed in the Senator’s encouraging tone simplify access to help with immigration issues, IRS problems, and other constituent needs. Mobile-optimized design ensures accessibility across devices while navigating strict Senate security requirements.
