Overview

Spruce partnered with the State of New Mexico to rebuild and expand the NMMIP Medical Insurance Portal — creating a modern, accessible platform that makes it easier for eligible residents to learn about coverage options and apply for insurance.

The previous NMMIP portal was outdated, not mobile-friendly, and created unnecessary barriers for the vulnerable population it serves. Given the critical nature of health insurance access, every friction point in the user journey had real human consequences — making a modern, accessible redesign an urgent priority.

The portal redesign prioritized the needs of NMMIP’s user population — creating a clear, compassionate digital experience that guides residents through understanding their coverage options and completing the application process.

Full ADA and WCAG compliance ensures that all New Mexico residents — including those with disabilities — can access health insurance information and application tools without barriers.

3. Mobile Optimization

The rebuilt portal is fully responsive across all devices — recognizing that many of the residents NMMIP serves access government services primarily through their mobile phones.
